Purchasing-power-parity and the saving behavior of temporary migrants

How does the saving behavior of immigrants respond to changes in purchasing power parity between source and host countries? We examine this question by building a theoretical model joint return-migration decisions temporary migrants then test its implications using data from German Socioeconomic Panel on 88 countries. As implied our model, we find that rate increases with price host-country terms source-country currency, but decreases level absolute magnitude both relationships as time retirement becomes shorter. At median years retirement, values elasticity savings respect nominal exchange are about one-half. Moreover, gradually restrict sample individuals stronger return intentions, estimated magnitudes coefficients become larger their statistical significance higher.
